Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 2, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how TripMate ("TripMate", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use the TripMate mobile application and related services.

By using TripMate, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Depending on the features you use, TripMate may collect the following information:

1.1 Account Information

When you create or sign in to a TripMate account, we may collect:

You may sign in using supported authentication providers such as Google or mobile phone authentication.

1.2 Trip Information

When you create or manage a trip, we may collect information such as:

1.3 Expense Information

If you use the expense tracking features, we may collect:

1.4 Photos and Receipts

If you choose to upload receipts, trip photos, or other images, TripMate may process and store those files to provide the relevant application features.

You control which images you choose to upload.

1.5 Location Information

TripMate uses your device's location only for the features you choose to use, and only after you grant the location permission:

Background location. While a live location share is running, TripMate collects your location even when the app is closed or not in use, so that trip members can keep seeing where you are — for example while your phone is in your pocket during a road trip. This happens only after you start a share and only until the period you chose ends or you stop it. A notification is shown for the whole time the share is running. TripMate does not collect your location in the background at any other time.

Shared positions are stored with an expiry time and are hidden from trip members as soon as the share ends. TripMate does not sell location data or use it for advertising.

1.6 Travel Documents

If you use the document wallet, you may add tickets, hotel bookings, insurance policies, permits and identity documents such as a passport or ID card, including a photo or scan of the document and details such as a booking reference.

1.7 Contact and Emergency Details

You may choose to add details to a trip member's card, such as a phone number, a UPI ID for settling up, a blood group, and an emergency contact's name and phone number. These are used only to show them to the members of that trip and to fill in payments and messages that you choose to send.

1.8 Camera

TripMate uses the camera only when you choose to photograph a receipt or a travel document, or to scan a trip invite QR code. Text on a receipt or document is read on your device; the image is not sent to a text-recognition service.

1.9 Device and Technical Information

We may automatically receive limited technical information necessary to operate and improve the application, such as:
